What is IELTS Speaking Part 2?

IELTS Speaking Part 2 is the Long Turn section of the IELTS Speaking test. The examiner gives you a cue card with a topic, three or four bullet points, and a final instruction asking you to explain something. You have exactly 1 minute to prepare and may write notes on paper. You then speak for 1 to 2 minutes while the examiner listens without interrupting, before asking 1 or 2 short rounding-off questions. Part 2 is assessed through the same four official IELTS Speaking criteria: Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation. It is often the most challenging part because you must organise ideas quickly, speak at length without help, cover every cue-card point, and maintain natural spoken English under time pressure.
